Scope and Content: | Series consists of work books, loose notes, manuscript and typescript drafts, galleys, page proofs and other material that documents the development and writing of Levine's novels and short stories, both collected and uncollected. Some of the titles included in the series are "From a Seaside Town", "I Don't Want to Know Anyone Too Well and Other Stories", "In Lower Town," "Canada Made Me" and "By a Frozen River" among others. Series also includes manuscript and typescript drafts of poems written by Levine as well as example of other types of his writing such as book reviews, essays, newspaper and magazine articles, lectures and talks. There are published copies of Levine's books, many of which are first editions, as well as copies of magazines, newspapers and journals in which his writing appeared. Also included are copies of Levine's published work in translation. The series includes correspondence, notes and drafts of radio and television scripts written by Levine or based upon his life or work. There are also audio cassette tapes of Levine's work produced for the CBC programs, "Anthology" and "Booktime", a recording of the BBC production of "By a Frozen River," as well as video cassettes of "Norman Levine's St. Ives," a BBC broadcast. Also included are art work, designs and layouts for "The Beat and the Still", Levine's collaboration with artist Ron Bolt. Finally, the series contains various examples of unpublished and published novels and other writing by others accumulated by Levine as well as copies of stories submitted to the CBC Literary Competition in 1988 and 1990 that contain his comments. | |
