Scope and Content: Series consists of portraits and images of performing artists in concert that were acquired to illustrate articles in Coda. The photographs were frequently taken by Bill Smith (appointed art director in 1963, co-editor from 1976 to 1983, and editor from 1983 to 2000), but the work of several other photographers is represented in the series. Many of the images were submitted as publicity stills by recording companies and concert promoters, and were accompanied by press releases, biographical sketches of the artists, and clippings about their performances.
Restrictions on Access and Use: No restrictions on access.
Permission to publish or reproduce for commercial purposes requires the previous consent of the copyright holder, which is frequently identified on the verso of the photographs.
Arrangement: The series is arranged into five broad categories: European instrumentalists, blues, vocal, Canadian instrumentalists, and U.S.A. instrumentalists. The files are arrangement alphabetically by the name of the performer within each category. In cases where the magazine did not receive a sufficient number of images to create a separate file for an artist, these images were grouped together in a general file for each letter of the alphabet.
