Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History: | Heidi Sander (1967-), freelance researcher, writer, photographer and teacher, was born and raised in the Kitchener-Waterloo region of Ontario. She completed a Bachelor of Independent Studies with a concentration in Communication and Public Relations at the University of Waterloo and received a Masters of Environmental Studies degree at York University with a concentration in Environmental Literature and Writing in 2004. She is the author of a newspaper column on nature trails for the "Globe and mail" and the "Record" as well as numerous travel and culture related articles in various magazine. Under the pseudonym, Katherine Jacob, she is the author of a Canadian bestselling travel guide series including the titles "44 country trails," "Bruce Peninsula trails," "Grand River country trails," "The best of the Bruce trails" and "Trails of the Oak Ridges Moraine." Sander has traveled extensively and is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). She received an Award of Excellence from the Waterloo Region Foundation for her books and "Trail markers" column. |

Fonds consists of research materials, drafts, manuscripts, proofs, notes and photographs related to Sander's articles and books "Bruce Peninsula trails," "The best of the Bruce Trail," "Grand River country trails," "Grand River country trails 2," "Oak Ridges Moraine trails" and "44 country trails." It also contains material that documents her participation in various committees and associations as a volunteer or as part of her professional activities such as the Grand Hill Village Association, the Recreational Committee (Grand River Heritage Foundation) and the Society of American Travel Writers as well as material related to the completion of her thesis at York University. |
