| Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History: | Janice Tyrwhitt (1928- ), author and editor, was born and educated in Canada, receiving the bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto (1950). She worked as an editor, staff writer and freelancer at 'Macleans' magazine (1950-1958), and 'Reader's digest,' (1965-1992). She also worked for several years as a manuscript appraiser for Macmillan (Canada). In addition, she served as a research assistant to Pierre Berton on his television series, 'The Pierre Berton show,' and published articles in 'Canadian magazine,' 'Star week,' 'Toronto life,' 'Saturday night,' and other Canadian publications. Tyrwhitt has also written, edited or done research for several books including, 'The mill,' (1976), 'Bartlett's Canada,' (1968), 'Report of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women,' (1970), 'How the Depression hit the West,' and other titles. |

The fonds consists of research notes, publication files for Janice Tyrwhitt's book, The Mill; copies of published articles, including the 'Reader's digest' articles that Tyrwhitt wrote or edited (1974-1992); correspondence and related material for Tyrwhitt's editorial and publishing career; and files related to the books written by Pierre Berton for which Tyrwhitt conducted research and answered correspondence. |
