| Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History: | The British Canadian Trade Association (formerly Canadian Association of British Manufacturers and Agencies) was a British trade lobby group. Organized in 1951, the Association had offices in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. The organization was made up of approximately four hundred British firms operating in Canada. It sought to promote trade between the two countries, represent the interests of its members to the federal and provincial governments, to publicize the activities and products of its members and to foster good relations between all receiving or offering goods and services in either country. Forced to close its offices in the 1970s, BCTA was re-named British Canadian Trade Associates by 1980. |

The fonds documents the creation and activities of the British Canadian Trade Association in promoting trade between Great Britain and Canada. |
| Restrictions on Access and Use: | Access is partially restricted. Written permission to view closed files must be obtained from the British Canadian Trade Association, and be directed to the Archivist, York University. Personnel files of terminated employees are closed. Any files dealing with the negotiations with the British government are closed for a period of twenty years after the last date in the files, or such time span as is employed by the government of Great Britain in dealing with confidential information. |
