| Biographical Sketch/ Administrative History: | Maurice Elliott is University Orator and University Professor Emeritus at York University in Toronto, Canada. Born in 1937 in London, England, he was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge University, and received his PhD from the University of Toronto. As a professor of English at York since 1966, Dr. Elliott primarily researched and taught the poetry of the Romantic period, as well as Irish writing in English. He has served York University as Master of Winter's College (1980-1987), as Chair of the Department of English (1993-1999) during which time he was awarded his University Professorship (1996), and as Chair of Senate (1998-1999), and as a member of York's Board of Governors. |
